After seeing the big 3 auto makers get hammered about having business jets, now there is a movement that anyone corporation/company getting federal bailout money should get rid of their business jets........ So if they get bailout money I should be out of a job??????? Brick wall People sure can get short sighted when they have no direct involvement. Business aviation on the surface may seem like a perk or a luxury, and at times it might be, but by enlarge it is a necessary part of the business make up of todays business world.

Those interviews made all the News Services here too, and while I appreciate your point, they were quite good drama.

The interviewer asked all these highly paid Executives who were begging for a Government handout, if they had travelled there by private jets, which they all had. He then asked how many were going to sell them and fly home with normal people on an Airline, none were. Finally were any of them going to sell these jets at all to help out their Companies, and again none were.

Made for very good television.

To me it showed the true ignorance of the press about the part business aviation on the economy. To base they entire thought process that business aviation is strictly a luxury truly shows the magnitude of the lack of knowledge the average person has of aviation in general. The even fathom to believe that having business jets is why the big three auto makers are in their current situation is truly a stretch.Brick wall

Someone needs to smack those reporters around with a box end wrench a couple times..... open end might leave a mark, lol. :d/

As I said, I appreciate your point of view, but it sure made for great television all around the World.

And he had a valid point, here are these very highly paid Executives each arriving in their individual luxury jets, begging for a Government (taxpayer) handout.

I can appreciate the audacity of Auto Execs jet setting to Washington while asking for a handout, they should be tightening the belt just as the little guy has been asked to do, however, they don't work for us.

What seems more egregious is the likes of Nancy Pelosi lecturing them. You might recall where she requested an upgrade to a USAF 757 due to her new stature as speaker of the house. A GIV wasn't suitable. 22k per hour for the 75. Last I checked, she works for us.

I think the Question should have been how many of them use the Business jets for personal trips. Business jets used for business LOL what a concept HUH? Businesses do need the jets due to the time savings they benifit from owning their own aircraft. Sitting at an airport waiting on an airline can be a very costly mistake in todays business world

Just like any asset that a business has there is potential for misuse. Its just the business jet is the most visible and the most exploited.

You know my only gripe about the banking giant buying a jet is that they went with a french falcon. Come on guys why are we supporting them, granted Cessna is about the only business jet company still a majority American owned. And I see the Citation line as your basic chevrolet of business jets and the bank wanting a little more status closer to a cadillac, but I Falcon........ Could have gone with Gulfstream and probably caught less flak............ Brick wall

The other part that is funny about this is that the plane was ordered in 2005,,,, that is 2 thousand and five........ not 2008 so it wasn't being bought with stimulus money except maybe the final payment. d'oh!

Sure wish the press would quit beating up the business jet industry. Would be nice if they would get off their hi-horse and let business aviation get back to wrk so the jets can get some maintenance done besides collecting dust in hangars.

Mr. President......... My job is just as important as anyones elses.......... Quit trying to do away with it!

Thank you Mr. President for helping put me unemployed........ Business aviation while a necessary part of business has been under siege by the President of the United States, Congress and worst of all the press........ Now I also realize that they aren't the only ones to blame, corporations sat back and did nothing except cut back on their aircraft, maintenance, and flying all for a chance to get free money from the government. Then you have the manufacturers of business jets all sitting quietly on the sidelines with only Hawker Beechcraft speaking up. NBAA was the most vocal of anyone, but apparently no one is listening.

Why is Business Aviaition and General Aviation so easily sacrificed by the government and the press. Do you think it will drive everyone to fly commercial? Can you imagine your elected officials flying Southwest Airlines? No you won't see the Speaker of the House flying commercial, not enough luggage space in the cargo compartment for her shoes and makeup, let alone not enough overhead bin space on the aircraft for her luggage. If business needs to give up their jets then Congress needs to give up theirs!

Ok, I'm stepping off my soapbox....... Sorry about getting carried away.

Still not hearing much support for business aviatio. Looks like general aviation is going to be next with the accelerated phasing out of 100LL with no viable alternative online......... Convienent that one of the last 100LL refinery catches fire and reduced capacity and no hurry to fix it..... Think

Is the government trying to shore up the airlines but doing away with everybody else? Well doing away with everyone one else but government business class jet zipping our elected officials to their $1,000/plate dinners and fund raisers.

I thought the NBAA had a louder voice than it has, and where is AOPA????????? These are supposed to be the premier voices in aviation.........

Slumping Bizjet lays off 14

by: D.R. STEWART World Staff Writer

BizJet International, the Tulsa corporate and general aviation aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul company, is laying off 14 people or 6.5 percent of its employees, company executives said Wednesday.

The lost jobs are casualties of the recession and the political climate toward corporate aircraft as luxury "toys," said President and CEO Bernd Kowalewski.

"With the present political climate, corporate flight departments are shutting down," he said. "It's considered politically incorrect to have a corporate flight department. I've heard that 20 percent of the corporate fleet is for sale.

"Luckily, we have more work from other countries, which keeps us alive."

BizJet, a wholly owned subsidiary of Lufthansa Technik, has more than 200 employees at its 440,000-square-foot facilities at 3515 N. Sheridan Road. At one point in 2008, the company employed more than 250 people, company officials said.

The company provides corporate and private jet refurbishment services, from interior re-upholstery to major modification and floor plan alterations, engine overhauls, exterior painting and airframe maintenance. The company offers repair and overhaul services for Gulfstream, Learjet, Falcon, Challenger, Citation, Hawker, Sabreliner, Westwind and Jetstar aircraft.

Since the Wall Street financial and credit crisis in September, corporate and general aviation aircraft manufacturers have slashed production and cut thousands of jobs as aircraft orders dropped. The aircraft manufacturing reductions have been followed by layoffs at overhaul and repair companies such as Tulsa-based NORDAM Group and BizJet.

Kowalewski said police and military aircraft overhaul and repair work remains strong, and he said corporate aircraft work could rebound if the economy improves.

"It all depends on how the economy comes back and if the political atmosphere changes toward business jets," Kowalewski said. "We're paying the price for exaggeration."

Bizjet was founded in Tulsa in 1986 by local businessmen Roger Hardesty and W.L. "Butch" Walker.

The company was acquired by Lufthansa in 2000.
